Waynesville – Winfred Eugene Douglas, Sr., 84, of Waynesville passed away Monday evening (July 1, 2024) at his residence after an extended illness.
Born in Jacksonville, FL his parents were Winfred E. Douglas and Essie Mae Minchew Douglas. He is also preceded in death by his only sibling, Rita Cravey.
Winfred started his career at the Brunswick Police Department as a patrolman and worked his way up to become the chief. He ended is career as the Chief investigator of the Georgia Secretary of State retiring in 2001. Winfred enjoyed wood working and doing cross word puzzles.
Survivors include his life long companion and the mother of his children, Minnie Douglas of Waynesville; a son and daughter-in-law, Gene Douglas, Jr. (Dawn) of Waynesville; a daughter and son-in-law, Dell Staley (Hank) of Atlantic Beach, FL; 6 grandchildren, Kaley Johnson, Jeremy Douglas, Jessie Cunningham, Burgay Staley, Madison Maassen, and Riley Douglas; 3 great grandchildren; and also a host of friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
