Hortense – Wilmer Fred Drury, 79, of Hortense passed Friday evening (January 26, 2024) at his residence after an extended illness.
Born in Waynesville, GA his parents were Preston Drury and Ivey Flowers Drury. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Joan Marie Roberson Drury; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters.
Wilmer was a timber harvester for Union Camp and a member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene where he was a deacon for many years. He also attended Bethlehem Baptist Church. Wilmer loved spending time with his grandchildren, listening to music, hunting, fishing and loved animals especially his chickens.
Survivors include his 4 sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher Wade Drury (Michelle) of Blairsville, GA, Thomas Brian Drury (Tonya) of Jesup, Tony Drury of Leesburg, GA and Charles Drury (Donna) of Jesup; 8 grandchildren, Ethan, Emma, James, Evan, Victoria, Kennedy, Alex and Zack; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Barbara “Elaine” Knight of Gum Branch, GA; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held Monday evening (January 29, 2024) from 6pm – 8pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday afternoon (January 30, 2024) at 2pm at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Drury officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Alfred “Junior” Drury, Anthony Drury, Clifford Drury, James G. Smith, Jared Thompson and Tom Chancey. Honorary pallbearers will be Durwin Phillips and Remington Tew.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
