William Floyd Sumner, Sr.

Atkinson – William “Bill” Floyd Sumner, Sr., 72, of Atkinson passed away Thursday morning (March 5, 2026) at his residence after an extended illness.

Born in Brunswick, GA his parents were Jessie Floyd Sumner and Thelma Baldre Sumner. He is also preceded in death by several siblings, Maria Crosby, Josephine Beaver, James Sumner, Martha Engle, Diane Lamontagne, Frankie Sumner, Faye Bratcher, Dean Sumner and Jean Vann.

Bill was a truck driver for many years and a member of King Memorial Baptist Church. He was with the Atkinson Fire Department for many years, a Mason and a Shriner. Bill loved to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events, watching sports and a very sociable person.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Sumner of Atkinson; 2 sons and a daughters-in-law, Jesse Sumner (Jenny) of Nahunta and BJ Sumner (Teresa) of Green Cove Springs, FL; 6 grandchildern, Shaylee Sumner, Brayden Sumner, Kenslee Sumner, Rian Sumner, Connor Sumner and Carlee Sumner; a brother, Ray Sumner of Moultrie; a sister, Carlis Sumner of Chiefland, FL; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday morning (March 10, 2026) starting at 10am at King Memorial Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday morning (March 10, 2026) at 11am at King Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Yawn and Rev. Tim Rowell officiating. Burial will follow in Hortense Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Shaylee Sumner, Brayden Sumner, Connor Sumner, Chris Smith, Chris Robertson, Will Mason, Landon Smith and Patrick Smith.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
