William Thomas Spires, Jr.

Waycross – William Thomas Spires, Jr., 84, of Waycross passed away Tuesday evening (August 29, 2023) at Baptist Village after an extended illness.

Born in Douglas, GA his parents were William Thomas Spires, Sr. and Mable Friday Spires. He is also preceded in death by his six siblings; and his previous wife, Mary Lou Spires.

William was the owner of Spires Floor Covering which he ran for 40 years and served in the United States Air Force. He also ran the Georgia Motel in Folkston and a Flea Market in Waycross for many years and attended Ware Baptist Church.

Survivors include his 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Martin Scott Spires (Robbie) of Blackshear, Dan Thomas Spires (Christa) and Jamie Hagen Spires all of Waycross; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Teresa Susan Vickers (Rick) of Macon and Lisa Ann Spires of Alaska; 10 grandchildren, Elizabeth Spires, Jason Thrift, Jay Spires, John Spires, Brad Spires, Preston Spires, Adam Spires, Caleb Spires, Brandy White and Brent White; several great grandchildren; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday morning (September 2, 2023) at 11am at Ware Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Roberson officiating.
