Virgie Shirley Knox

Nahunta – Virgie "Shirley" Knox, 76, of Nahunta, passed away Saturday (October 25, 2025) at her residence following an extended illness.

Born in Jacksonville, Fl., her mother was Joyce Lavon Stewart Miller. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Peter James Strickland; grandmother, Maude Stewart; special nephew, Ricky Lane; beloved best friend, Jackie Knox.

Shirley was a cook for many different locations and a member of Lulaton Baptist Church. She loved fishing, gardening, and reading. Shirley was a member of the Dart Champion , was a pool shark but most of all she loved spending time with friends, family, and her grandkids.

Survivors include a son, Steve Knox of Nahunta; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Gail Bauer (Kenny) of Hortense, Glenda Lewis of Nahunta; 2 grandchildren, Bryan Knox Bauer (Kayla), Nissa Boggess “Skeet” (Jesse); 5 great grandchildren, Cameron Wainright, Kaytee Bauer, Knox Bauer, Ceyla Mae Bauer, Brantley Sparre; 1 great great grandchild, Bristol Wainright; 5 step children, Jerry Jr., Cindy, Katrina, Donald, and Sherry; 2 sisters and brother-in-law, Charlotte Thigpen (Gary) of Woodbine, Sheila Wainright (Mike Walker) of Nahunta; also several other relatives and a host of friends.

A special thank you to Hospice and Brittany Hayes, Emily Krause, Katie Harris, and other Hospice area staff; Also would like to extend a special thank you to Timothy Lane, Jonathan Raulerson, and Karen Lee Moody.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday (November 1, 2025) from 4-7 PM at 115 Lindsey Trail Nahunta, GA 31553. Everyone is welcome to come.
