Thelma Burnett Stokes

March 1, 1932 — February 22, 2020

Hortense- Thelma Burnett Stokes, 87 of Hortense, passed away Saturday (February 22, 2020) at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.

Born in Idabel, OK., her parents were Clarence Burnett and Dessie Mae Bearden Burnett. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Louis Stokes; her son, Michael Stokes; three brothers, Clarence Burnett, Otis Burnett, and Alvie Burnett; two sisters, Lilly Mae Wilson and Dorothy Burnett.

Mrs. Stokes worked many years as a Clerk for Best Western Motel. She loved working in her flowers, sewing, and was an avid reader. She also loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Stokes (Becky), of Hortense, Barry Stokes (Brenda), also of Hortense; her daughter and son-in-law, Connie Stokes (Al), of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; 6 grandchildren, Stacey Drury (Tristin), of Cordelle, Melanie Lightfoot (Brad), of Brunswick, Courtney Wainright (Corey), of Waycross, Jeffrey Stokes (Christy), of Brunswick, Lindsey Quinones (Brian), of Thomasville, GA., and Lauren Rowell (Logan), of Hortense; 9 great grandchildren; her sister, Doris Raby; and two brothers, Odell Burnett and J.P. Burnett, all of DeQuincy, LA. Also several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday (February 25, 2020) from 6PM-8PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

Graveside Services will be held Wednesday (February 26, 2020) at 11AM at Mt. Olive Cemetery with Rev. Earl Lamey and Rev. Bobby Tatum officiating.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
