Tavares Ruth Tatum

October 23, 1946 — August 31, 2022

Hoboken – Tavares Ruth Johns Tatum, 75, of Hoboken passed away Wednesday (August 31, 2022) at her residence after an extended illness.

Born in Winokur, GA her parents were Gordon C. Johns and Ruth Arnold Johns. She is also preceded in death by a son, Toby Lane; 2 grandsons, Jared Lane and Jacob Morrison; 2 sisters, Gertrude Hodges and Amelia Cook; and a brother, Gordon C. Johns.

Tavares was a homemaker and a member of World Harvest Church of God. She loved her grandbabies and her fur babies and had a big heart and was a mama to anyone who needed her and loved taking care of everyone. Tavares also loved working in her yard and taking care of her flowers.

Survivors include her 9 daughters and sons-in-law, Danita Turpin (Mark) of MI, Daphne Crews (Jonathan) of Nahunta, Sheila Lane of Hoboken, Sharon Morrison (Randy) of Blackshear, Charity Lane of Hortense, Crystal Smith (Josh) of Homerville, Della Allen (Ross) of Nahunta, Catera Lane (Adam) of Waycross and Martha Lane of Hoboken; 14 grandchildren & their spouses, Zach Turpin, Connor Turpin, Michael Mathie (Kayla), Martin Mathie (Mary), Cody Crews, Mitchell Crews (Sierra), Kira Crews, Josh Lane, Skylar Morrison, Dustin Morrison (Angel), Crista Gibson (Steven), Brooke Parse (Shane Kindle), Lexie Smith and Adelynn Dixon; 17 Great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Herman Johns (Bonnie) of Middleburg, FL; the father of her children, Tommy Lane of Hortense; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held Friday evening (September 2, 2022) from 6pm – 8pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

A funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon (September 3, 2022) at 3pm at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Whaley officiating. Burial will follow in Bachlott Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Zach Turpin, Connor Turpin, Michael Mathie, Martin Mathie, Cody Crews, Mitchell Crews, and Josh Lane.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
