Steven Lawrence Wheeler

Nahunta – Steven Lawrence Wheeler, 48, of Nahunta passed away early Saturday morning (May 30, 2026) at his residence after an extended illness.

Born in Charleston, SC his parents are Kenneth R. Wheeler, Sr. and Clare Mellard Wheeler. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Walker and Pearl Mellard; and his paternal grandparents, Arthur and Hester Wheeler.

Steven was a painter for K & S painting and loved having a good time. He loved spending time with his grandbabies, fishing, sitting by a fire and listening to music. Steven enjoyed surfing as a child, and loved sports, where he played baseball, football and soccer.

Survivors include his daughter, Alyssa Wheeler of Waycross; 2 grandchildren, Davina James and Matthew James; his father, Kenneth R. Wheeler, Sr. of Cedartown, GA; his mother, Clare Wheeler of Charleston, SC; a brother, Kenneth Wheeler, Jr. of Charleston, SC; 2 sisters and a brother-in-law, Pam Thomas (Bryon) of Marion, NC and Beth Wheeler of Walterboro, SC; the love of his life, Jessica Albritton of Nahunta; 3 half brothers, David Whetsell, Johnny Whetsell and Thomas Whetsell all of Nahunta. and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
