Waynesville-Shirley Jean Chauncey, 76, of Waynesville passed away peacefully and went to be with her Lord early Monday, June 22, 2026.
Born in Bristol, Tennessee on December 12, 1949, to the late Elmer Gibson and Marie Clayton Gibson. She was also preceded in death by her husband Wayne (Hank) Chauncey who passed away on March 25, 2023.
Shirley was a proud member of the United States Army and resumed her career in numerous positions at MCLB/Albany, Ga. Positions held were Military Equipment Refinishing Technician and Parts Logistics Specialist, just to name a few. She was well known and loved by all her friends and family. She enjoyed listening to music such as Neil Diamond and Dwight Yoakam. One of the things she enjoyed was traveling all over the US to places such as Pikes Peak, White Sands, Tombstone and St. George Island, just to name a few. Her pastimes included watching mystery shows, investigations and suspense thrillers. Shirley also enjoyed Bible reading and birdwatching.
Survivors include her two daughters April Curles (Leland) and Lila Parker (Jason); her son Robert Chauncey (Shannon); her two grandsons Jacob Curles and Matthew Redding; her three granddaughters Paisley Holland, Stella Holland and Samantha Redding; her brother Bobby Gibson of Texas; her two sisters Pat Copeland of Arizona and Margaret Jackson of Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
