Waynesville-Russell James Hickox, 84, of Waynesville passed away Tuesday (August 18, 2020) at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup, GA. after a brief illness.

Born in Hoboken, GA., his father was Jess Hickox and Ethel Dowling Hickox. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Edna Gates Hickox; 3 brothers, Gillis, Lawton, & Fred Hickox, and 3 sisters; Clara Russell, Effie Griffin, and Inez Stokes.

Russell drove a Brantley County school bus for 7 years, then he was a log truck driver for 20 plus years. He retired from B & W when it shut down. He also worked as a welder at Griffis Steel and Iron. He was an avid deer and turkey hunter and great fisherman. He loved his dog Pepper and watching his chickens and hummingbirds in his yard. He just loved being outdoors.

Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Ted Daniel Hickox (Betty) of Wilkesboro, N.C. and Carl “Rusty” Russell Hickox (Evelyn) of Waynesville, GA.; 5 grandchildren, James Daniel Hickox, Theresa Cothren, Shedina Brown, Brian Curry (Kelsey), and Devin Curry (Katie); 12 great grandchildren, Chelsea Smith, Michael Cothren, Faith Cothren, Kyle Curry, Annalise Curry, Amris Curry, Liam Curry, Asher Curry, Dawson Curry, Kase Curry, Olivia Curry, and Cate Drake; 3-Great,Great Great Granddaughters,one sister, Myrtice Hickox (Landell) of Mexico and a very special niece Christy Stokes Thomas of Hoboken.

No service will be held at this time.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
