Paul Kaley Willis

In loving memory of Paul Kaley Willis who passed away Thursday, July 23, 2026.

Paul was the son of George and Margrete Willis, born March 20, 1929, in Schenectady, New York, moving to Nahunta at an early age. He lived his early life in Brantley County. He was predeceased by his wife Romona Crews Willis; brothers J.O., Kenneth “Bozo”, Steve, John and Frank Willis; a sister Mary Lou Willis Kick; stepmother Verdie Willis.

Paul’s life was defined by courage, love, service, adventure and unwavering strength. He lived a life that spanned nearly a century, witnessing incredible changes in the world while leaving his own lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. On July 23, 2026, Paul peacefully left this earth, but his legacy will live on in our hearts forever.

From the very beginning Paul was determined and hardworking. At just 13 years old he went to work at the Brunswick Shipyard helping build Liberty Ships during World War II. He was so eager to do his part that no one questioned him--until they discovered how young he really was and made him leave. Even as a boy, Paul understood the value of hard work and service to others. That spirit of service continued throughout his life. He proudly served our country in both the United States Army and Merchant Marines including service during the Korean War. He answered the call of duty with honor and courage, and our family will always be proud of the sacrifices he made for our nation. Paul was a handsome man, but those who truly knew him understood that his greatest qualities came from within. He carried himself with quiet confidence, strength and kindness. He loved deeply, laughed often, and lived life on his own terms.

One of Paul’s greatest joys was St. Simons Island. There was something about the peaceful ocean breeze, the beauty of the coast and the simple serenity of the island that brought him happiness. It was a place where he could simply be himself. He also loved riding motorcycles, embracing the freedom of the open road with the wind at his back and the horizon ahead. Those rides reflected who Paul was—a man who appreciated life’s simple pleasures and the adventure that came with every new journey. He loved Blue Grass music, especially banjo music. He went to many jamborees in Slaughterville.

Perhaps one of the greatest blessings in his later years was being reunited with the love of his life, Romona. After years apart, they found their way back to one another, reminding us that true love never really fades. Their reunion was a beautiful gift, and today we find comfort knowing they are together once again, reunited for eternity. As we say goodbye, we remember not only what Paul did, but who he was. He taught us about perseverance, patriotism, loyalty, and living with purpose. His story, his smile and his presence will be deeply missed, but they will never be forgotten. Though our hearts are heavy today, we can take comfort in knowing that Paul has completed his journey here on earth. We can imagine him now, free from pain, reunited with those he loved, and finally at peace. Maybe he’s riding an endless highway through heaven, feeling the same freedom he loved so much before stopping to sit along a shoreline that reminds him of St. Simons Island.

Paul, thank you for your service, your example, your love and your life. We will miss you every day, but we are grateful for every moment we were blessed to share with you.

Rest easy, dear brother. Until we meet again, may God hold you in His loving arms.

Survivors include a son David Willis; three stepchildren Melanie Perry, Colt and Roger Stallings; a brother Robert Willis; two sisters Sandra Thomas (Maurice) and EllaMae Wilson; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 10:00 am at Southside Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am at the church officiated by Rev. Hilton Morgan.

Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery immediately following the service.

Pallbearers include Andy Willis, Brantley Willis, Darren Crews, Blake Bishop, Mike Meyers and Colt Stallings.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
