Norah Martin, 91, of St.Petersburg, FL. formerly of Brunswick, GA, passed away Friday September 12 at the Patrick Manor Assisted Living Facility in St.Petersburg after a short illness. She was born in Manchester, England to the late Herbert and Mabel Eunice Clegg, nee Logie. Norah grew up in Manchester, having survived the Blitz of World War 2 after she and thousands of other children were evacuated to the safety of the countryside. Later, she set out on her own, emigrating to the United States where she met and married Navy sailor Jerry Martin. As a military wife she lived in Lakehurst, NJ; Tacoma, WA; Panama, South America; and Brunswick, GA, as GLYNCO "leftovers". For over 40 years, she owned and operated Martin's Canine Motel. Her life's passion was caring for and rescuing animals. She even housed the first animals coming in to the Humane Society while the original building was under construction. She enjoyed researching geneology with her friends at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Brunswick and outings with the Red Hat Society. Also, she was a member of St.Marks Episcopal Church where for several years she enjoyed making the cheese toast breakfast on Sundays.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Leslie Martin, siblings Ronald Clegg, David Clegg, Jean Hignett, Muriel Clegg, and Margaret Wolf Lang.
Survivors include, her daughter and son in law, Leslie and Kenneth Brantley of Brunswick; her son and "favorite" Christopher and daughter in law Susan Martin of St Petersburg, FL; her granddaughter Tara Elizabeth Martin of Maple Valley, WA; her sister, Eunice Horne of Manchester, England; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and extended family Michael and Lynn Brantley of Hortense, and Michele Trifler of St. Petersburg FL.
She is also survived by her loving and most caring professional extended family at Patrick Manor ALF in St Petersburg, FL. to whom Norah's family will be eternally grateful for having had the privilege of knowing and having them care for Norah in her final years.
