Hickox – Micheal Leon Short, 67, of Hickox passed away Saturday evening (July 29, 2023) at his residence after an extended illness.
Born in Jesup, GA his parents were Herman Sloan, Barbara Teston Sloan and James P. Short. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Gwen Strickland Short; nephew, Shannon Davis; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norris & Lorena Strickland.
Micheal was a truck driver for Williams Bro. Trucking and served in the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of One Life at a Time Ministries and enjoyed going to the mountains, watching westerns, collecting knives and watching birds.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Crews (Corey) of Hickox; 2 grandchildren, Grace Lawson and Hayden Lawson of Waverly; 5 sisters and a brother-in-law, Donna Davis, Debbie Davis, Angie Alewine(Mike) all of Hortense, Lena Sloan of Calhoun, and Tina Taylor; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alan Strickland (Marion) of Hickox; 3 nephews, Brandon Davis (Erin) of Waynesville, Hunter Strickland (Erin) and Byron Strickland (Brooke) all of Hickox; a niece, Mindy Ingram (Matthew) of Hortense; special friends, Rick and Renee Watkins of Millington, MI and Susan Richards of Hortense; and also several other nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held thirty minutes prior to the service Saturday (August 5, 2023) starting at 10:30am at New Hope Cemetery.
A graveside service will be held Saturday morning (August 5, 2023) at 11am at New Hope Cemetery with Pastor Mindy Ingram officiating.
Pallbearers will be Corey Crews, Brandon Davis, Hunter Strickland, Byron Strickland, Scot Davis and Matt Ingram.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to One Life at a Time Ministries building funds, 6314 Hwy 32 E Hortense, GA 31543.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
