Matthew Junior Jumper

Waycross – Matthew Junior Jumper, 64, of Waycross passed away Sunday (May 5, 2024) at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross, GA.

Born in Cherokee, NC his parents were Ute Jumper and Elsie Jumper. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Benita Jumper.

Matthew worked for West Contracting in construction. He loved woodworking and most of all spending time with his family. He was a loving husband and father. He is a proud member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Matthew grew up in Robbinsville, NC in the Smoky Mountains. He later relocated to Brunswick, GA where he met his beloved wife, Debra.

Matthew never met a stranger and was known for taking care of people, often opening his home to people in need. He will be missed by his whole family. He was a pillar of strength for his wife and children. They will remember him fondly when Lynyrd Skynyrd or CCR play on the radio, and with every bowl of banana pudding made with his special recipe.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Jackson Harris of Waycross; 3 sons and a daughter-in-law, Jarret Jumper (Brittany) of Waynesville, Brian Jumper of Robbinsville, NC, Timmy West of Monroe, GA.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Jumper (Terrance) of Waycross; 3 step children and their spouses, Jessica Herrin (Shannon), Daniel Ratliff (April), Daryl Ratliff (Candice), all of Waycross; 8 grandchildren, Destin Sims, Dylan Sims, Landen Criminger, Sophie Baker, Bryson Jumper, Brianna Jumper Pruitt, Skarlet Jumper, and Jasper Jumper; 3 brothers, John Jumper, Jim Jumper, and James Jumper all of Robbinsville, NC; a sister, Virginia Jones of NC; also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday (May 11, 2024) at 4PM at Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Trey Keene officiating.
