Mary Ellen Broughton

Waynesville – Mary Ellen Nichols Broughton, 84, of Waynesville passed away Saturday evening (May 31, 2025) at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick after an extended illness.

Born in Brunswick, GA her parents were Jesse Nichols and Lula Clark Nichols. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Thomas Broughton; a daughter, Teresa Broughton; and several siblings.

Mary was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She loved cooking, baking, watching gospel shows, the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Kirk Broughton (Aundrea) of Waynesville; 3 grandchildren, Brandy Johns, Kayla Broughton and Aaron McKinney; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday morning (June 3, 2025) at 11am at Mt. Olive Cemetery with Rev. Darrell Joiner.
