Malcolm Reese Strickland

Nahunta – Malcolm Reese Strickland, 92, of Nahunta passed away Saturday evening (July 25, 2020) at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick from complication from COVID-19.

Malcolm was born on March 5, 1928 to the late Joseph Levi Strickland and Sarah Gertrude Highsmith Strickland. His sibling are Lois Strickland, Lucille Strickland Parkes and John Curtis Strickland.

He is preceded in death by his son, Joseph Malcolm “Mack” Strickland; 2 sisters, Infant Lois Strickland and Lucille Strickland Parkes and her husband Charles William “Bill” Parkes.

Malcolm grew up and worked on a farm in Brantley Co. He graduated from Nahunta High School. He joined the United States Army Corp of Engineers and saw service in Korea and Vietnam. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He then worked for the State of Florida Welfare Department until his second retirement. After retirement, he then moved to his family home property and set up a very nice estate, where he resided with his wife until his death. Throughout his life, he was very interested and skilled in machinery – Autos, tractors, ect. and enjoyed repairing and using them. Later in life, he became an expert woodworker-furniture maker, producing some amazing and beautiful pieces. He also enjoyed fishing both river and saltwater. He served a term as chairman of the Brantley County Development Commission.

He is survived by his wife, Young Chun Strickland of Nahunta; a brother and sister-in-law, John C. Strickland (Sondra) of Houston, TX; 3 nephews, Michael Parks and children, Vernon Strickland (Julie) and children and Joseph Strickland (Jen) and children; 3 nieces, Laurie Quinn (Darrell) and children, Carol Lee (Michael) and children and Sarah Ariel “AKA Diana” Strickland; and also several other relatives and a host of friends.

A memorial service will be arranged at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to your favorite charity.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
