Hortense – Lonnie Wayne Rooks, 65, of Hortense passed away Wednesday evening (August 21, 2019) at his residence after an extended illness.

Born on September 26, 1953 in Waynesville, GA the 5th and youngest son of Henry Clayton Rooks of Jesup and the late Vinter Clara Gibson Rooks. He is also preceded in death by 2 sons, Clayton Wayne Rooks and Brian Lofton Rooks; a granddaughter, Briana Nicole Rooks; and a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph & Martha Rooks.

Lonnie worked for NAPA as an auto parts technician for much of his adult life and his customers became lifelong friends. He was a member of Trinity Church of Nazarene in Waynesville and loved his church and church family. He continued going there until he got too feeble, then he watched services on T.V. He loved gospel music and he jammed frequently with Gaither Vocal Band, Booth Brothers, and Dottie Rambo, just to name a few. Lonnie also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a big fan of the Braves and Georgia Bulldogs.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Henry Clayton & Inee Harper Rooks of Jesup; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda & Cliff Lee and Glenda & Don Patterson all of Hortense; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerome & Sarah Rooks of Brunswick, Roy & Barbara Rooks of Claxton, and Glenn & Pat Rooks of Hortense; a stepsister, Donna Harper of St. Simons; and also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday evening (August 23, 2019) starting at 6PM at Trinity Church of Nazarene in Waynesville.

A funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon (August 24, 2019) at 2PM at Trinity Church of Nazarene with Rev. Donald Patterson and Rev. Larry Little officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Cliff Lee, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Melton, Leslie Rooks, Leon Rooks, and Darryl Rooks. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Heery & staff at Coastal Cardio, Dr. Tucker & Staff, Dr. Trefts, Dr. Bee, Dr. Fussell, Dr. Suddeth, Henry Rooks, Jerome Rooks, Roy Rooks, Glenn Rooks, and Melinda Melton.

Pallbearers are asked to be at the church Saturday afternoon by 1:30PM.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
