Karen Cox Hamlett

Hortense – Karen Cox Hamlett, 69, of Hortense passed away Thursday (July 10, 2025) at her residence.

Born in Greensboro, NC her parents were James Fletcher Cox and Betty Hughes Cox. She is also preceded in death by 2 brothers, James Fletcher Cox, III and Donald Cox.

Karen was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She loved going to the beach, bird watching, doing jigsaw puzzles, listening to music and most of all loved spending time with family and her grandchildren.

Survivors include 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Tarah Lee of Ramseur, NC. And Kaitlinn Weerts (Shawn) of Hortense; 4 grandchildren, Alexis Lee, Ethan Lee, Olivia Weerts, and John Weerts; and also several other relatives and a host of friends.

A sunset walk to celebrate the life of Karen will be held Thursday evening (July 17, 2025) at 8pm at Driftwood Beach in Jekyll Island. The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date.
