Nahunta – Joseph “Joey” Darrell Steedley, 63, of Nahunta passed away Monday (December 1, 2025) at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL after an extended illness.
Born in Fitzgerald, GA his parents are Elizabeth Patricia “Pat” Herrin Anders and the late Seward Jackson “Jackie” Steedley.
Joey was a dispatcher for OREMC and a member of Hickox Baptist Church. He is one of the founding family members of the Grace Baptist Church and loved his son with all his heart. Joey enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching sports especially the Georgia Bulldogs.
Survivors include his son, JoJo Steedley of Nahunta; 3 step children, Daniel Johnson, Jack Johnson and Darian Moore all of Nahunta; his mother, Pat Herrin Anders of Suwannee, FL; a brother and sister-in-law, Chris Steedley (Emma) of Nahunta; a sister, Sandra Steedley Barker of Jacksonville, FL; 3 nieces, April Bonner (Brad) of Richmond Hill, Alisha Mease (Jeff) of Ponte Vedra, FL and Beth Millican (Robie) of St. Simons; 2 nephews, Jackson Steedley (Kali) of Jesup and Jake Steedley (Faith) of Nahunta; 8 great nieces and nephews; his best friend, Missi Steedley of Nahunta; and also several other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held Friday evening (December 5, 2025) from 6pm – 8pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
A funeral service will be held Saturday morning (December 6, 2025) at 11am at Hickox Baptist Church with Rev. Ray McMillan and Rev. Jamie Giddens officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Juke Johns, Colt Stallings, Kippie Ham, Stanley Dowling, Tracey Leroy Harris and Scott Highsmith. Honorary pallbearers will be OREMC employees and Brantley County High School class of 1980.
