Johnnie Fredrick Cleland, 84 of Nahunta, passed away Monday (January 20, 2020) at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick, GA.
Born in Waycross, GA., his parents were William Alfred Cleland, Jr. and Maude Harris Cleland. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Highsmith Cleland, two brothers, Wannis Cleland and Donald Cleland.
Mr. Johnnie was a member of Southside Baptist Church, he retired after 43 years with Okefenokee Rural Electric Membership Corporation. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and loved sports in his younger years. He was voted Most Athletic in his graduating class.
Survivors include his son, Jamie Cleland, of Nahunta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Holt (Joey), of Folkston, Amy Lyons (Kevin), of Raybon; two grandchildren, Jana Thrower, of St. Augustine and Dustin Lyons, of Raybon; one great grandchild, Jaelynn Thrower; and a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas Earl Cleland (Sylvia), of Jacksonville; a sister-in-law, Wanda Cleland of Nahunta; and a brother-in-law, Jim Wainright; Also several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday (January 22, 2020) from 6PM-8PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday (January 23, 2020) at 2PM at the Chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Andee Courson, Rev. Cliff Adams, and Mr. Roger Sloan officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Roger Sloan, Brian Peeples, Collin Peeples, Mike Peeples, Alan Wainright, and Ron Strickland.
Honorary pallbearers will be present and former employees of the Okefenokee Rural Electric Membership Corporation.
Family and pallbearers are asked to meet at the Funeral Home by 1:30PM Thursday.
