John Nicholas Michels, of Waycross Georgia, passed away peacefully in his home on September 8th, 2019 at the age of 84, one week shy of his 85th birthday.

John was born in Teaneck New Jersey on September 15th 1934 and was the son of Nicholas John Michels and Anna Michels. He is survived by his sister, Georgette Wooster, his nephews Joseph Antonell, Michael Antonell, Kenneth Michels, John Michels, Thomas Michels and his niece, Julie Michels. John was predeceased by his late brother, Gerald Michels who passed away in 1994.

John was a veteran of the Navy and served admiralty on the U.S.S. Forrestal during the Korean War. He was a member of the Seabees division while serving in the Navy and was proud to have served his country. After he was honorably discharged, John was a long-time employee of the Brinks Company in Teaneck N.J. He served as an Armored Truck Guard and driver for many years until he retired in 1980 in Teaneck New Jersey.

John was an honest man that enjoyed animals, gardening and mingling with family and friends. He was known as a person that would help anyone who asked, even if it meant giving them his last dollar. He will be sorely missed by his family and the community of Waycross Georgia, where he called home for the last 12 years.
