John 'Johnny' Woodrow Thompson

July 1, 1946 — April 14, 2019

Folkston– John Woodrow “Johnny” Thompson, 72, of Folkston passed away Sunday (April 14, 2019) at his home after a brief illness.

Born in Jacksonville, FL his parents were James Woodrow and Willie Mildred Bland Thompson. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Peggie Ashburn Thompson; a granddaughter, Diane Mumford; and 4 brothers, Harry James Thompson, Derrell Thompson, Noel Thompson, and Lorren Thompson.

Johnny was retired from Mumford and Sons Well Drilling and was a member of Nahunta Church of God. He loved being outdoors, fishing, hunting, golfing, and gardening. Johnny was a jack of all trades and there was nothing he couldn’t do. He loved being around his family, his many many friends and loved helping everybody.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Harry James “Jimmy” & Melissa Mumford of Bryceville, FL; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Donna & Greg Jones of Jesup, GA, Tracy and Charles Carroll of Hilliard, FL, and Wanda & Sam Merkle of Warner Robins, GA; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Eric & Jessica Nettles of Hoboken, GA, April & Billy Ray Harris of Nahunta, GA, Crystal Green of Hilliard, FL, Corey & Cheyenne Carroll of Hilliard, FL, Chuck Carroll of Hilliard, FL, Jessica & Neil Maddox of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Nathan & Kaitlan Mumford of Bryceville, FL, Daphne & Cody Anderson of Callahan, FL, Levi Mumford of Bryceville, FL, Dallas Mumford of Bryceville, FL, John & Nicole Crawford of Rockford, IL, and Brandi Sarama of Warner Robins, GA; a brother and sister-in-law, Bobby & Janice Cumbus of Athens, TN; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Lillie Mae & Howard Martin of Livingston, TX and Lu Scott of Jacksonville, FL; and also several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will be held Tuesday (April 16, 2019) from 6PM – 9PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday (April 17, 2019) at 11am at Riverside Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Florey officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Danny Ashburn, David Smith, Marty Nelson, Aaron Bell, Doug Lloyd, and Carl Davis.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
