Janice Batten Morgan

Nahunta – Mrs. Janice Batten Morgan, 90, of Nahunta passed away early Saturday morning (February 10, 2024) at Bayview Nursing Home after an extended illness.

Born in Hickox, GA her parents were Lee Andrew Batten and Ruby Blocker Batten. She is also preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Batten Lewis; and her only brother, Kenneth Andrew Batten.

Mrs. Janice was a homemaker and had served as Chief Deputy Clerk of Superior Court for many years.   She was married on December 22, 1954 to Rev. Hilton Morgan where she served along side him as the wife of Clerk of Court and a Pastor of Bishopville, SC, Soperton, Baxley, New Hope Church off Miles Still, First Church in Waycross and Raybon Advent Christian Church where they are current members. Where you saw Mr. Hilton she was right there beside him. They had a wonderful journey together. 

Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Rev. Hilton Morgan of Nahunta; 2 sisters and a brother-in-law, Celinda B. Inman and Susan B. Hayes (Mitch) all of Jacksonville; like their own children, Scarlet Johns Cox (Dennis) of White Oak and Beth Johns Lewis of Hoboken; special family, Laura & Mark Crews, Michael & Tonya Morgan; special friends, Kathy & Roger Chesser; also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held Monday evening (February 12, 2024) from 6pm – 8pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

A funeral Service will be held Tuesday morning (February 13, 2024) at 11am in the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Bro. David Herrin officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Clinton Davis, Roger Chesser, Chuck Wilson, Ron Strickland, Adam Edwards and Walter Manning.  Honorary pallbearers will be Kathy Chesser, Evelyn Strickland, Janet Herrin, Floyd   & Betty Holt, Danny & Maria Henley, Odie Crews, Scott Crews, Laura & Mark Crews, Sam & Karen Inman, and members of Raybon Advent Christian Church.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
