James "Sonny" Byron Barber,Sr.

Waynesville- James Byron “Sonny” Barber, 85 of Waynesville, passed away Saturday morning (September 18, 2021) at Jesup Health and Rehab.
Sonny was preceded in death by his father, mother, three brothers, two sisters and his oldest son, Byron.
He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Virginia Mae Hooper Barber, a brother, Bobby Barber, and several brothers in law, a sister, Peggy Barber Dixon, and several sisters-in-law, two daughters, Cindy and Candy, and two sons, Tony and Jeffrey, multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, his extended family and many friends. He was loved by all.
Sonny, as he was known since he was a boy, was a member of King Memorial Baptist Church. Sonny was a true Patriot and warrior. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force for 4 years, U.S. Navy for 8 years and the U.S. Army for 4 years.
Sonny was known for his quiet, patient, gentle nature, strong work ethic and his ability to build anything.
Sonny will be cremated and his remains buried in the Georgia Veterans Cemetery in Glenville Georgia with military honors.
There will be a small graveside service for family.
The family requests no flowers.
