James Carl Nichols

Hortense – James Carl Nichols, 58, of Hortense passed away Tuesday evening (August 4, 2026) after a brief illness.

Born in St. Mary’s, GA his parents are Shirley Robinson Nichols of Hortense and the late Charles Nichols. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Kimberly Purdee Nichols; a brother, George Nichols; and an uncle, Roger Nichols.

James was a farmer who loved hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Kristy Rowland (James) of Nahunta; a son and daughter-in-law, Cameron Nichols (Abby) of Hortense; 5 grandchildren, Kirsten Nichols, Taylor Rowland, Alvin Rowland, Cheyenne Rowland and Hunter Rowland; a great grandchild and one on the way, Easton Nichols; his sister, Tina Gill of Hortense; 2 nieces, Shyann Gill and Nikki Gill; 2 great nieces, Scarlett Gill and Ivey Gill; and also several other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday afternoon (August 11, 2026) from 1:30pm to 2pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday afternoon (August 11, 2026) at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home.
