James Everret Cross

James Everret Cross, 81 of Nahunta, passed away on Sunday (September 28, 2025) at his residence following an extended illness.

Born in Nahunta, GA., his parents were Acy Knight Cross and Juanita Shirley Hickox Cross. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon “Susie” Gutierrez and three sisters, Martha Williams, Linda Howard and Carolyn Lovell; paternal grandparents, William Smith Cross and Easter Wainright; maternal grandparents, Charlie Jonathan Hickox and Josephine Griffin.

James graduated in 1962 from Nahunta High School and worked 40 years for Sante Fe Railroad in Denver Colorado. He moved back to Brantley County in 2006 and was an active member of AA.

Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Cross; his son, James W. Cross; two grandchildren, Alisa Garcia and Lamar Gutierrez; three great grandchildren, Junior Garcia, Romie Garcia and Xlomara Garcia; one great grandchild, Adan Blazic Garcia; six sisters and a brother, Geneva Wilson, Mary Hendricks, Christine Proctor, Deloris Kennedy (Ray), Cathy Drury and Shirley Steedley; and his brother and sister-in-law, Calvin Herrin (Janet). Also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

No services will be held at this time.
