Waynesville - Buddy Smith, 76, of Waynesville, Georgia passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, (March 28th 2024) following an extended illness.
Buddy was born November 5, 1947 in Perry, FL to the late Delmar Henry and Edna Eloise Duckworth Smith. He was a man of many titles, including but not limited to soldier, truck driver, follower of Christ, veteran, and firefighter. But some of the titles that meant the most to him also meant the most to others as well: son, brother, husband, daddy, papa, and uncle. Buddy took great pride in his family, just as they did in him. He was a caring family man who will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, he is preceded in death by two sisters and two brother-in-laws, Mary Elizabeth Smith Mock (Pharon Mock) and Irene Darlene Smith Mizell (Robert Mizell).
Buddy not only loved his family, he loved his country as well. He served as PFC in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and attended Little Memorial Baptist. During his retired life he loved to fish, a hobby he enjoyed even more when his family joined him. He loved Western movies and all things John Wayne.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Smith; two daughters, Amy Hendricks (Keith Hendricks) and Megan Stone (Phillip Prescott); eight grandchildren, Sierra West (David West), Hannah Hendricks (Skyler Byrd), Dylan and Garrett Prescott, Don and Colby Hendricks, Allie and Alyssa Moody; five great grandchildren, Nicholas Dominguez, Bentley Hendricks, Hank, Hunter, and Zoie West; a special niece, Brittany Childress (Chris Childress); two special great nephews, Kyle and Gabriel Childress; three special fur babies, Blu Boi, Fia, and Abby; and several other nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.
Family will receive visitors an hour prior to the service on Tuesday (April 2,2024) starting at 11am at Little Memorial Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday (April 2, 2024) at 12:00 p.m. at Little Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Brown, Rev. Ritchie Self, and Rev. Phillip Kidd officiating. Burial will follow in the Little Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Altman, Fred Glausier, Chris Stokes, Bobby Hunter, Larry Meyers, David Smith and Garrett Prescott. Honorary pallbearers will be the adult Sunday School class of Little Memorial Baptist Church and Dr. Janise Whitesell.
