Hickox – Gwen Strickland Short, 67, of Hickox passed away Friday morning (July 29, 2022) at her residence after an extended illness.
Born in Blackshear, GA her parents were Norris and Lorena Rowell Strickland.
Gwen was a para-pro for 33years for the Brantley County Board of Education and a member of Hickox Baptist Church. She loved going to the mountains and reading.
Survivors include her husband, Micheal Short of Hickox; a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Crews (Corey) of Hickox; 2 grandchildren, Grace Lawson and Hayden Lawson of Waverly; a brother and sister-in-law, Alan Strickland (Marion) of Hickox; nephews, Hunter Strickland (Erin) and Byron Strickland (Brooke) all of Hickox and Brandon Davis (Erin) of Atkinson; a niece, Mindy Ingram (Matthew) of Hortense; 4 sisters-in-law, Donna Davis, Debbie Davis, Angie Alewine (Mike) all of Hortense and Lena Sloan of Calhoun; 2 aunts, Myrle Lee of Hickox and Marion Clements (Earl) of Brunswick; and also several other nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
A graveside service will be held Monday afternoon (August 1, 2022) at 3pm at New Hope Cemetery with Rev. Ray McMillan and Rev. Jamie Giddens officiating.
Pallbearers will be Hunter Strickland, Byron Strickland, Randy Rowell, Brandon Rowell, Brandon Davis and Matthew Ingram.
