Franklin Dempsey Griffin

Hortense – Franklin “Frank” Dempsey Griffin, 82, of Hortense passed away Wednesday night (September 23, 2026) at Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville, FL after a brief illness.

Born in Cuthbert, GA his parents were Pete Dempsey “P.D.” Griffin and Nellie Woodard Griffin. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Terry Lance Griffin.

Frank was the owner of Atkinson Pawn Shop and Brantley Mini Storage and served in the United States Air Force for 8 years and the Coast Guard of 4 years. He was a member of Hickox Baptist Church and loved spending time with his family, friends but most of all his grandchildren. Frank enjoyed selling and trading and was always willing and dealing.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Sue Griffin of Hortense; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis Harris (Tony Griffin) of Nahunta, Cindy Herrin (Daniel) of Hortense and Jennifer Owens (George Skarpalezos) of St. Simons; 2 step sons, Denny Ryan Tuten (Michelle) of Lakeland, GA and Ted Hagler, II (Myka) of Kingsland; 12 grandchildren, Candace Purdom (Mikal Szczepaniak), Jordan Thomas, Stevens Harris (Kayla), Noah Tuten, Ansley Worth (Logan), Carsyn Owens, Trey Hagler, Chloe Rizer (Dalton), Chandler Owens, Taylor Hagler, Remington Herrin and Satilla Griffin (Alan Bennett); 5 great grandchildren, River Brooks Worth, Bailey Knight Griffin (Cassie), Hayden Mardany (Laci), Joshua Mardany, and Christian Szczepaniak; 4 great great grandchildren, Daultry, Maggie, Dalan and Axson; sister, Sharon Carlson of Augusta; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon (September 27, 2026) from 2pm to 3pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

A memorial service will be held Sunday afternoon (September 27, 2026) at 3pm at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Ryan Tuten officiating.
