Ernest Morris Hickox,Sr.

Mr. Ernest Morris Hickox, Sr., 69, of Nahunta died late Saturday night at the S.E. Georgia Health System in Brunswick after a sudden illness. Born in Brantley County in the Hickox area, he was the son of James Barney and Alene Hayes Hickox. A member of the Nahunta First Baptist Church he had retired from the Norfolk/Southern Railroad where he worked as a Car Inspector. Mr. Hickox had worked in most all the Southern Areas with the railroad. A former member of the Nahunta Masonic Lodge # 391, and had also been a member of the Shrines, in Albany, GA. A regular for many years in the "Gold House Coffee Club, Morris, as know by most, loved to cook and was a very talented cook. He also loved and enjoyed his cats. Preceded in death by his Parents, 2-Brothers, Claude and Tony Hickox. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Kay Chambless Hickox, of Nahunta, a daughter, Kathy Merrill, of Greenville, S.C., his son, Ernest Morris Hickox, Jr. "Sonny", of Bachlott, 2-Grandsons, Amos and Jonathan, sister, Marlene Hickox, of Hoboken , his Step-Mother, Betty Jo Crews, of Hilliard, FL.,a half-sister, Elaine Johns, of Tenn., also several Nieces, Nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held Monday evening starting at 6:00 P.M. at Frye Funeral Home (Formerly Chambless-Frye) in Nahunta. Funeral services for Mr. Hickox will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00PM from the Nahunta First Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Carson officiating. Pallbearers will be Bill McCauley, Edward Chancey, George Deaver, Kleve Mathie, Steven Chambless, Steve Hayes, Curtis Crews, Jackie Tumlin and Frankie Boatright. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wain Brooker, Danny Thornton, Don Mathie, J.W. Bowen, William Hinesley, Don Hendrix, Jimmy Woodard, Billy Thomas, Jeff Thomas, Sonny Barber and Gary Crews. All are ask to please meet at the church by 1:30 PM Tuesday. Burial will follow in the New Hope cemetery in Hickox with Military Honors.
