Nahunta – Edward Jackson Chancey, 93, of Nahunta passed away Wednesday evening (September 24, 2025) at his residence after an extended illness.
Born in Nahunta, GA his parents were Jasper Chancey and Pearl Morgan Chancey. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Harris Chancey; 2 sisters, Loutrelle Chancey and Tiny Stewart; and 2 brothers, Bobby Chancey and Carroll Chancey.
Edward worked for Georgia Pacific and served in the United States Army Quartermaster Corps as a Corporal. He was also the owner and operator of Chancey’s Standard Oil Station that later became known as Chevron and served on the Brantley County Board of Education as a chairman for many years. Edward was a member of the Jaycees, Lyons Club, Nahunta Masonic Lodge for 53 years and was a District Worshipful Grandmaster for the Mason’s. Most of all he loved to spoil his grandkids, especially traveling with them and cooking.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Phillip Chancey (Sara) of Hoboken; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Phyllis Chancey of Nahunta and Patricia Carrier (Paul) of Atlanta; 4 grandchildren, Melissa Strickland (Travis Myers), Constance Carrier, Garrett Strickland (Casey) and Loren Chancey; 7 great grandchildren, Annie-Mae Grace Strickland, Jackson Carrier, Tennessee Jackson Strickland, John Lee Dempsey Strickland, Georgia Lynn Strickland, Jameson Tex Strickland and Bella Gina Maina; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger Chancey (Emily) of Nahunta; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday (September 28, 2025) from 6pm -8pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
A funeral service will be held Monday morning (September 29, 2025) at 11am at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Chaplain Carlos White officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers will be Garrett Strickland, Bobby Joe Chancey, Marc Chancey, William Harris, Travis Myers and James Riggins.
The family would like to give special thanks to Mr. Edwards’ sitters, Patricia Crews, Pam Strickland and Sharon Allen and the Georgia Hospice Care nurses and CNAs.
