Donald "Donnie" Edward Townsend

Donald “Donnie” Townsend, 70, of Hortense passed away Sunday evening, December 17, 2023, at Wayne Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Jesup to the late Edward and Betty Sloan Townsend and lived in Hortense most of his life. Mr. Townsend worked at the Brunswick Pulp Mill until 1989 and then owned and operated Satilla Creek Raceway in Hortense for many years. He attended Satilla Baptist Church and always enjoyed talking on the C.B. Radio and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Esther Brauda Townsend of Hortense; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wade and Becky Townsend and Tommy and Susan Townsend all of Hortense; eight grandchildren, Ashley Queen (Jacob), Hailey Braddy (Staten), Kinsley Townsend, Eva Townsend, R.J. Townsend, John Paul Townsend, Brennon Townsend, Bryce Townsend; four great-grandchildren, Gracelyn Queen, Killian Queen, Noah Queen, and Dayton Braddy; one sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Daniel Selph of Jacksonville, FL; one nephew, Brian Selph (Zinaida) of Jacksonville, FL; and also several other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

A funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon, December 21, 2023, at 3 pm at Satilla Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Jackson and Rev. Lamar Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Satilla Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Brauda, Jonathan Brauda, Brian Selph, Jacob Queen, James Holland and Mel Rowell.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
