Daniel Calvin McGill

Hoboken – Daniel “Dan” Calvin McGill, 83, of Hoboken passed away Monday evening (April 20, 2026) at Hospice House in Waycross after an extended illness.

Born in Stark, FL his parents were Wesley Calvin McGill and Lilly Mae Clark McGill. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Lou Case McGill; a son, Michael E. McGill; a brother, Frank McGill; and a sister, Barbara McGill Horne.

Daniel Calvin McGill had a long and exciting life. His marriage to his wife, Barbara lasted 44 years and was a sweet testimony of his love and dedication.

He loved his wife’s parents like they were his own. He really enjoyed helping his father-in-law, Tex Case, with his hay business, and he felt that having his three sons work in the hay fields was a wonderful experience for them.

Dan had the exciting privilege of working with Tex from the very beginning of creating three different Lion Country Safari drive-through animal parks. At each park, he and several family members became game wardens with Dan specializing in the lions.

He later chose to become a full-time cross-country truck driver, but stayed dedicated to his family, teaching his sons to become self-sufficient, independent, and hard-working. According to those boys of his, Dan also taught them what getting your bottom end whipped was all about, as well.

Dan’s hobbies included Nascar, anything to do with old hot rods, old cars, hanging out in mechanic shops and telling everyone what to do and what they were doing wrong!! He adored entertaining others with his life stories. His family will miss him, but we celebrate his memory with love and laughter.

Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie D. McGill (wife, Linda Bowman McGill) of Brookhaven, MS and Daniel L. McGill (wife, Karen Broz McGill) of Hoboken, GA; a daughter-in-law, Susan McGill; 7 grandchildren, Adam McGill, Caleb McGill (wife, Stephanie), Chauncey McGill (wife, Chelsea), Trevor McGill, Constance Johns Lewis, Kim Durr (husband, Dewayne) and Brandon McGill (wife, Corrina); and also numerous great and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

A graveside service will be held Thursday morning (April 23, 2026) at 11am at Hoboken City Cemetery with Rev. Danny Varnadore officiating.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
