Herman Clayton Carter, 81, of Hickox began plowing the gardens of heaven early Saturday morning, Nov. 11, 2023, at his residence after a short illness. He was born in Hickox to the late Christopher Columbus Carter and Fancy Velera Herrin Williams and lived in Hickox all of his life. He worked at Brunswick Pulp for twenty-five years and was a retired farmer. Mr. Carter always enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening and was President of South Diamond Hunting Club since 1985.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne Aspinwall Carter of Hickox; four children, Lynn Carter Studstill (Scott) of Hickox, James Clayton Carter of Hickox, Betsy Carter of Hortense, and Bonnie Carter (Cody Kelly) of Waverly; nine grandchildren, Derek Studstill (Jordan) of Hickox, Brooke Studstill (Byron Strickland) of Hickox, Brianna Vaughn (Stetson) of Hickox, Kaley Tucker (Jake) of Hoboken, Matthew Carter of Hickox, Joshua Carter of Hickox, Kamryn Smiley of Hortense, Eli Clayton Byrd of Waverly, and Kade Kelly of Waverly; four great-grandchildren, Paige Studstill, Aubry Chambers, Calan Strickland, and Koen Vaughn; two sisters, Mildred Connors (Chuck) of Hickox, Marnell Nobles (Johnny) of Macclenny, FL; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Visitation will be held Monday evening (November 13, 2023) from 6 until 8 pm at Frye Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday afternoon (November 14, 2023) at 2 pm at Frye Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hilton Morgan officiating.
Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Scott Studstill, James Carter, Derek Studstill, Matthew Carter, Gary Wainright, Stetson Vaughn, and Byron Strickland.
