Carswell Morrow Royster

Mr. Carswell Morrow Royster, 89, of Hortense, GA passed away at home on December 19, 2023 following an extended illness. Mr. Royster was born in Nahunta, GA on October 22, 1934. He was the fifth of eight children born to the late Jesse Thomas Royster and Janice Morow Royster.

Mr. Royster was a member of the Satilla Missionary Baptist Church in Hortense where he served at various times as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and Discipleship Training teacher as well as serving on the Satilla cemetery committee.

A 1953 graduate of Brantley County High School, Mr. Royster was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1957 where he served in an Honor Guard unit at Fort Benning, GA. In later years, he served on the Brantley County Development Authority as a board member and chairman.

He was an expert earthmover and a gifted bulldozer, motor grader, and dragline operator. Mr. Royster was a former co-owner of Royster-Wilson construction. In 1979 he started his own business, Royster Construction and Equipment , which he operated for 25 years before retiring to become a full-time Papa and gardener.

Preceding him in death were five sisters, Edris Gomez, Wiltse Robinson, Anne Thomas, Janice Selph, and Linda Royster, and a brother, Frank Royster, Sr.

Mr. Royster leaves behind his loving wife of 68 years, Jean Rowell Royster; two sons, David Royster (Vickie), and Kevin Royster (Cindy); a brother, William Royster (Amelia); eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Friday (December 22, 2023) starting at 10am at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

A funeral service will be held Friday (December 22, 2023) at 11am at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Jackson and Rev. Tim Hall officiating.

Burial will follow in the Satilla cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brian Rowell, Kelly Rowell, William Johns, Elliott Ippolito , Greg Royster, Kyle Royster, Mike Kersey, and Gary Sellers.

In lieu of flowers you can make donations to Satilla Baptist Church cemetery fund.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
