Billy Dawson, age 89, passed away peacefully on the night of June 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 29, 1936, in Cordele, Georgia, Billy lived a life defined by service, dedication, kindness, and a deep love for his family and community.

Billy was one of three children born to William C. Dawson and Mary Ellis Lewis Dawson. He grew up with strong values of hard work, integrity, and helping others—qualities that remained with him throughout his life.

In 1955, Billy proudly enlisted in the United States Army. Following his service in the Army, he continued serving his country in the United States Air Force, where he remained until the early 1970s. His military service reflected his commitment to duty and his love for his nation.

After his military career, Billy built a successful career with Scapa Inc. in Waycross, Georgia, where he worked faithfully until his retirement. He was respected by his coworkers for his work ethic, reliability, and willingness to lend a helping hand.

Billy was a devoted husband, sharing 69 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life Mattie Louise Redding Dawson. Together they built a family grounded in love, faith, and support. He is survived by his beloved spouse; his children, Sandra Sumner, Marie Stewart, Troy Stewart and Eddie Dawson (Angie Dawson); along with 9 grandchildren, multiple great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends who will cherish his memory.

A loving father and family man, Billy found great joy in the outdoors. He enjoyed woodworking and took immense pride in creating things with his hands. Whether building, repairing, or crafting something special, he approached every project with skill and patience. More importantly, he was always ready to help anyone in need, never hesitating to share his time, talents, or wisdom.

Billy was also deeply involved in his community. He proudly served as an Auxiliary Deputy Sheriff for Brantley County and was known by many for his willingness to serve others. His kindness, generosity, and dedication to helping those around him left a lasting impact on countless lives.

Billy will be remembered for his strength, humility, unwavering love for his family, and servant’s heart. His legacy lives on through the many people he touched throughout his life.

Though he will be greatly missed, his family takes comfort in the memories they shared and the example he set. His life was one well lived, and his influence will continue to be felt for generations to come.

"Well done, good and faithful servant."
