Riverside – Betty Jean O’Quinn Johns, 88, of Riverside passed away Saturday afternoon (February 12, 2022) at her residence after an extended illness.
Born in Charlton County, GA her parents were Tyler Jackson O’Quinn and Maggie Harris O’Quinn. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Moncie R. Johns; a son, Jerry Johns; 2 grandchildren, Wendy M. Wainright and Moncie Lamar Johns; and 11 siblings.
Mrs. Betty was retired from the Charlton County Senior Center as the site manager and was a member of Riverside Christian Church. She was a foster parent for 22 years and loved foster children and taking care of anyone who was in need. Mrs. Betty also loved sewing, quilting, canning, farming, gardening and all animals.
Survivors include 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. William R. Johns (Brenda) of Waynesville, Rev. Otis Johns (Rose) of Hickox and Adam Johns (Pam) of Pensacola, FL; 5 daughters and sons-in-law, Mona Jean Wainright (Rev. James) of Riverside, Debbie Allbritton (Rev. Grady) of St. George, Patricia Whaley (Rev. Tommy) of Darien, Sandy Broxton (Rusty) of Vidalia, and Joyce Ann Long (David) of Riverside; 25 Grandchildren; 69 Great Grandchildren; 31 Great Great Grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Ruth O’Quinn of Hillard and Irma Jean O’Quinn of Nahunta; her life long best friend, Betty Mae Johns of Riverside; a special friend and caregiver, Diane Strickland of Blackshear; all of her loving foster children; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held Monday evening (February 14, 2022) from 6pm-8pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday morning (February 15, 2022) at 11am at Hickox Praise and Worship with Rev. James Wainright, Rev. Tommy Whaley, Rev. Grady Allbritton, Rev. David Allbritton and Rev. Lyn Graham officiating. Burial will follow in Bachlott Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
