Bennie George Woods

Waynesville-Bennie George Woods, 82, of Waynesville, passed away Saturday night (September 4, 2021) at his residence following an extended illness.

Born in Statesboro, GA. his parents were Virgil Woods and Mamie Ruker Woods. He is also preceded by his wife, Kathleen Neely Woods, 2 brothers, C.V. Woods and Doy Woods, 5 sisters, Junie Burke, Irene Smith, Inez Tinnley, Jean Mallard, and Mary Woods.

Bennie owned and operated Woods Hardware Store, which was his passion. Mr. Bennie was of the Baptist faith. He loved gardening so much that he planted gardens for everyone in the neighborhood. But most of all he loved his family and his great grandchildren, they were his heart. He was called “Mr. Bennie Popsicle Papa”.

Survivors include his daughter and her husband, Tammy Beckham (Earl) of Waynesville, GA., 2 grandchildren and their spouse, Carla Beckham and David Beckham (Melissa) both of Waynesville, 3 great grandchildren, Emma Beckham, Anslee Beckham, and Lila Beckham all of Waynesville, 2 sisters, Lila Lee and Jackie Woods both of Statesboro. Also, several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. And a host of friends.

Visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to service on Wednesday (September 8, 2021) starting at 1:30 PM at Woods Cemetery.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday afternoon (September 8, 2021) at 2 PM at Woods Cemetery with Rev. Emory Wilson officiating.

Due to COVID-19, we would like to ask all to please follow the rules for social distancing, also face mask are highly recommended at the service. Anyone who does not feel comfortable with attending the service the family would like you to know they understand and covet your prayers
