Avery Moody Harrison, Sr.

Hortense – Avery Moody Harrison, Sr., 85, of Hortense passed away Wednesday morning (October 4, 2023) at his residence after an extended illness.

Born in Thalman, GA his parents were Newman Baker Harrison and Amelia Louise Richardson Harrison. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Johns Harrison; 3 daughters, Norma Jean Harrison, Brenda Lee Rozier and Lettie Lee Brauda; a son, Teddy Lee; 2 sisters, Shirly Elizabeth Harrison and Carol Belleisle; and 3 brothers, Ronald Harrison, Rodney Harrison and Neil Harrison.

Avery worked for Brunswick Housing Authority and served in the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country and the Lord. Avery was a funny, energetic and caring man right till the end. He loved tending to his garden, fishing from his bass boat and watching old timey westerns. Avery also enjoyed spending time with all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a good man and good friend to many and will forever be loved and missed.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Harrison (Jimmy Clark) of Hortense; a son, Avery Moody Harrison, Jr. of Hortense; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Hugh Harrison (Ruth) of Hortense; 2 sisters, Mary Schwartz of Hortense and Yvonne Smith of Brunswick; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Tuesday morning (October 10, 2023) starting at 10am at Whitaker Hill Cemetery.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday morning (October 10, 2023) at 11am at Whitaker Hill Cemetery with Bro. Shawn Knudson officiating.

Pallbearers will be Amon Griffin, John Harrison, Justin Hilliard, Christopher Clark, Jimmy Clark and Sammy Harrison.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
