Hoboken- Andrew Jackson Johns, 88 of Hoboken, passed away Saturday (June 24, 2023) at St. Vincent’s Riverside in Jacksonville, FL. following a brief illness.

Born in Hickox, GA., his parents were Robert E. Lee Johns and Amy Idell Johns. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Esta Harris Johns; a brother, Ronald Bonnel Johns; and a sister, Linda Joy Johns.

Andrew was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and was highly respected in the community. He graduated High School in 1952 and went on to serve in the United States Army. He worked 12 years with OREMC and was owner of Biscay Restaurant.  He was also employed with the Brantley County Sheriff’s Office, working many years as a Deputy and recently as a Bailiff. He worked throughout the years with Frye Funeral Home. Andrew loved dancing, playing music, fishing, hunting, bluegrass music, and food. He loved people and people loved him. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Andy Johns (Helen), of Nahunta; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Zada Crutcher (Ken), Jackie Johns, all of Glen St. Mary’s, FL.; 3 grandchildren, Keisha Long, Amy Duncan and Benjamin Johns; 6 great grandchildren, Tryston Long, Brock Duncan, Adelyn Duncan, Hope, Dallis and Benjamin Johns; step children, Clyde Sumner (Glenda), of Jesup, Bobby Sumner (Sandra), of Brunswick, Bobbie Sue Sumner, also of Brunswick; many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, his dog,Slick. Also several nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday (June 28, 2023) starting at 6PM at Frye Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday afternoon (June 29, 2023) at 2PM at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Wainright and Rev. Randall Gunter officiating.

Burial will follow in High Bluff Cemetery with Military Honors.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Davis, Sandy Cooper, Glenn Hendrix, Kenny Johns, Dewayne Johns, and Benjamin Johns.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Brantley County Sheriff’s Office, The Staff of Frye Funeral Home, Chuck Wilson and the Staff of Golden Isles EMS.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
