Julia Highsmith Walker

January 24, 1947 — February 6, 2017

Hickox- Julia Viola Highsmith Walker, 70 of Hickox, passed away Monday (February 6, 2017) at her residence following an extended illness.

Born in Jesup, GA., her parents were Hoke Smith Highsmith and Evelyn Herrin Highsmith. She was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Minnie Wainright; her brother, James “Jimmy” Highsmith; and her half brother, Vernon Wainright.

Julia retired after many years as Executive Director of the Housing Authority of Nahunta and was a member of Atkinson Church of God of Prophecy. She enjoyed sewing, fishing, camping, and spending time with her grand babies.

Survivors include her husband of 27 years, John Walker, of Hickox; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Samuel Murdock Martin VI “Marty” (Tracy), of Ft. Valley, GA, Eric Hoke Martin, of Nahunta, Ricky Walker, of Atkinson; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Shannon Martin Rhoden (Clay), of Atkinson, Jennifer Batten (Randy), of Hickox; 8 grandchildren, Steven Martin, Wesley Dean, Gracie Martin, Marly Rhoden, Stevi Martin, Kenzie Batten, Mason Batten, and Kaelyn Batten; her God daughter and her spouse, Rosalyn Williams Tootle (Gary), of Glennville, GA; her God son and his spouse, Curtis Jefferson (Mindy), of Ft. Valley, GA; her sister-in-law, Iris Highsmith, of Hickox; 2 nephews and their spouses, Scott Highsmith (Teresa), Austin Highsmith (Angel), all of Hickox; a great nephew, Lofton Highsmith of Hickox; and a very special friend, Denise Herrin, of Hickox. Also several other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday (February 9, 2017) from 5-7PM at her residence; 7545 Caney Bay Rd. Nahunta, GA 31553.

Funeral Services will be held Friday morning (February 10, 2017) at 10AM at Atkinson Church of God of Prophecy with Bishop Raymond Willis and Rev. Mike Hendrix officiating.

Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dale Johns, Carl Harris, Curtis Jefferson, Brian Beasley, Kenny Walker, and Jeremy Crews.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
