Johnny Loyd Strickland, 75, of Hortense died Tuesday morning ( April 13, 2010) at Kindred Hospital in Green Cove Springs, FL after an extended illness. Born in Hortense , Georgia his parents were William Elliott and Lottie Anderson Strickland. He is also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Johnny was a property appraiser for the Brantley County Tax Accessor office. He also loved cooking and food and enjoyed sitting on his porch looking at the beauty of nature. He is survived by his wife, Ann Lyons Strickland of Hortense; 3 daughters & sons-in-law, Leigh Ann & Jabo Lee and Dara & Jerry Rewis both of Raybon and Eve Sapp of Hazelhurst; 5 grandchildren, Haustin Lee, Bryson Lee, Lilly Rewis, Cannon Rewis and Baelin Rewis all of Raybon; a sister, Inez Popwell of Popwellville; a brother, Lawton Strickland of Hortense; a special brother-in-law, Elmer "Slim" Strickland of Hortense; 3 special friends, Bill & Peggy Chewning of Monticello, GA and Sara Futch; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a multitude of friends. Visitation will be held Thursday evening (April 15, 2010) from 6-9 PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A funeral service will be held Friday afternoon (April 16, 2010) at 3 PM at the Chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Jackson and Mr. Jerry Rewis officiating. Burial will follow in Satilla Cemetery in Hortense. Pallbearers will be Linton Herrin, Brian Herrin, Shannon Herrin, Chris Popwell, Michael Fetzer, Jabo Lee, Jerry Rewis, and Bill Chewning.
