Carl Donald Griffin

May 26, 1932 — May 20, 2020

Mr. Carl D. Griffin, 87, of Hoboken passed into the arms of God on Wednesday morning (May 20, 2020) at Hospice Satilla in Waycross, GA.

Born in Hoboken, GA, his parents were Charlie Eustace Griffin and Mary Viola Dowling Griffin. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Aline Griffin Lynn, and three brothers, Lawrence Griffin, Elvin Griffin, and Delmus Griffin.

Mr. Griffin served our country stateside during the Korean Conflict as a member of the U.S. Army. He worked for many years as a sewing machine mechanic in area factories before retiring, as well as owning Griffins Garments. He loved to play music with his friends, and played fiddle and guitar for many years. Carl was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and a caring man who was friendly to all.

A faithful member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Carl served for many years in the Homebound program visiting area nursing homes on Sunday mornings. He served as well as through his love of music as he accompanied his wife in sharing the gospel through song.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Patsy Griffin, a daughter Cathye Betzel (John) of Blacksburg, VA, a son Joshua Griffin (Mandy Cabral-Hangsleben) of Nahunta, GA; 7 grandchildren, Victoria Boatwright (Greg), Andrew Betzel, Samantha Keserauskis, Madison Griffin, Brett Griffin, Bryce Griffin, and Fallon Hangsleben; two brothers Maurice Griffin (Joyce) and Wayne Griffin and one sister Iris Carter all of Hoboken, GA; and several nieces and nephews, as well as extended family and friends.

A private graveside service will be held Saturday (May 23, 2020) at 11:00 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery with pastors Randall Gunter and Mike Yawn officiating.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, the family would like everyone to know that they understand that many may not feel comfortable attending gatherings, and welcome expressions of sympathy in other ways, especially in prayers.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.fryefh.com.
