Waynesville- Betty Jo Sheppard Thompson, 86 of Waynesville, passed away Tuesday afternoon (October 18, 2022) at her residence following an extended illness.
Born in Atkinson, GA., her parents were Walter Dan Sheppard and Ella Minchew Sheppard. She was also preceded in death by her son, Terry Thompson; great grandson, Bentley Gibson; one sister, Billy Bennett; two brothers, Bobby Sheppard and J.D. Sheppard; and one son-in-law, Earl Copeland.
Mrs. Betty was a member of Waynesville Missionary Baptist Church. She worked many years as an Accountant. She loved her Church and spending time with her children and grandchildren, she also enjoyed bowling, basketball, and dancing.
Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Debra Copeland, of Waynesville, Regina Hunter (Eddie), also of Waynesville, and Angela Stokes, of Hortense; grandchildren, Justin Copeland (Shan), Jennifer Knight (Trent), Matthew Dixon (Jennifer), Aaron Hunter, Jamey Gibson, Josie Smith, Chase Stokes, and Joni Thompson; 14 great grandchildren, Gage Copeland, Caleb Dixon, Bryston Knight, Edward Trace Hunter, Evan Dixon, Taylor Smith, Dylan Smith Bailey Gibson, Ella Knight, Reese Dixon, Brody Gibson, Amelia Parchman, Daisy Hunter, and Adalyn Thompson; her brother, Walter Sheppard; her sister, Evelyn King. Also several nieces, nephews, others relatives and a host of friends.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday (October 22, 2022) at 3:30PM at the Chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Altman and Rev. Randy Wainright officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:30PM-3:30PM, at the Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Highsmith Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clinton Sweat, Richard Farrell, Danny Sheppard, Justin Copeland, Wayne Burcham, and Tony Sheppard.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Gwen Murphy, Jessica O’Berry, Daphne Springer, Chaplain Carlos White, and the rest of the GHC Hospice Group.
The family will be receiving friends at the residence of Debra Copeland; 142 Cherokee Hill Waynesville, GA 31566.
